About Intelehealth

Intelehealth is a mission-driven organization, born from a student project at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Bioengineering Innovation and Design (CBID). At its core, Intelehealth is a digital health platform that empowers frontline health workers to deliver primary care services to the most remote areas. By leveraging task-shifting models, AI-enabled tools, and telemedicine technology, Intelehealth ensures essential healthcare services reach populations that would otherwise be excluded.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision: Health for All

Access to healthcare is a fundamental human right, and we are committed to ensuring that everyone can access the care they need, wherever they are, without financial hardship.

Mission: Deliver Quality Healthcare Where There Is No Doctor!

To deliver affordable, high-quality primary healthcare services to the most underserved populations by leveraging technology, task-shifting, and scalable telemedicine solutions.

The Platform at a Glance

Intelehealth is an open-source telemedicine platform tailored to the unique needs of last-mile healthcare programs. It enables frontline health providers to connect rural and remote populations with experienced doctors via teleconsultation. Through its innovative tools, Intelehealth enhances health workers' ability to:

  • Gather comprehensive clinical histories.

  • Conduct accurate and clinically-relevant physical exams.

  • Facilitate seamless teleconsultations with remote physicians.

This platform is widely adopted by hospitals, community health initiatives, and governments to extend primary healthcare services to populations living in resource-constrained settings.

Key Components of the Platform

The Intelehealth platform is built on a foundation of five main components, each tailored to address specific needs in healthcare delivery. Together, these components create a comprehensive and seamless ecosystem for delivering primary care services to underserved populations.

Intelehealth Android Application

  • A user-friendly mobile application designed for frontline health workers (FHWs), including frontline health workers (FHWs), nurses, and general physicians. It enables them to collect patient data, manage appointments, and facilitate real-time teleconsultations with doctors.

  • Provides offline functionality to ensure continuity in low-connectivity areas.

Intelehealth Web Application

A robust web-based platform for remote healthcare providers, program managers, and administrators to manage patient records, prescriptions, and consultations.

  • Features an intuitive interface for seamless workflows and integrated telemedicine capabilities.

  • Communicates with the backend through the middleware, ensuring secure and efficient data exchange for patient records, prescriptions, and visit details.

Middleware

A critical intermediary layer that manages communication between client applications (Android and Web Apps) and the backend system.

  • Efficiently synchronizes data to reduce server load.

  • Ensures secure and reliable data transfer via RESTful APIs for pushing and pulling patient records, observations, and visit details.

Intelehealth Backend (OpenMRS Electronic Health Record System)

  • A backend powered by the OpenMRS framework, which serves as a scalable and customizable electronic health record (EHR) system.

  • Ensures secure storage, processing, and retrieval of patient data, facilitating compliance with global healthcare data standards.

Ayu - A Rules-Based Digital Health Assistant

  • An intelligent assistant designed to provide decision support to health workers.

  • Offers structured guidance for gathering clinical histories, performing physical exams, and managing care workflows.

Data Dashboards Server

  • A centralized analytics hub that provides actionable insights through interactive dashboards.

  • Enables program administrators and decision-makers to track performance, monitor patient outcomes, and optimize healthcare delivery.
